the laceration sensation

last night was a huge reminder to me that i have a rambunctious little boy.
my parents have been in town since saturday and we were spending some time at my aunt's house.  we were all in the living room and everton, being his cute clumsy self, tripped over air and fell right into the sharp corner of the coffee table.
my child started hootin and hollerin.  he started gushing blood and i was in a panic.  we were actually in a little debate as to whether or not everton needed stitches.  we decided that we should at least get it checked out.  thank freakin goodness my parents were there, to comfort me and to drive us to the hospital.  we were in spanish fork so we assumed they had somewhat of an urgent care center or something.  they did, and they were already closed, at 3pm.  what the freak kind of urgent care center closes at 3?  they definitely didn't have a hospital so we had to go to provo's urgent care.  the doc decided that everton's wound was indeed a laceration and that we would have to take him to the ER to be sedated and to get stitches.  and so we were on our way, just across the street.
a lollipop soothes all of everton's troubles.  but some ben and jerry's chocolate therapy ice cream would soothe mine.  my heart was in my stomach the whole night.  and the little piste han (filipino word for silly kid) was running around the waiting room and had fallen on his cushy diapered bum.  then some old dude was like, "now i can see how he cut his head."  you got it buddy.
my parents did an excellent job taming down any hyper energy everton had left over.
seeing him sedated wigged me out.  his eyes were still open but his body looked lifeless, it made me so glum and yes of course teary eyed!  everton got 5 stitches
but he was getting hilarious as the doc stitched him up.  at random times everton would raise up his little legs or arms and even started oohing and aahing.

after the procedure we had to wait about 30mins for him to get out of his loopiness .

question, is this real life?

when he was able to hold his head up and drink some juice we were allowed to go home.  we stopped by mcdonalds for a late night dinner and i gave everton a french fry and he started suckin on it like a straw.  still feelin loopy everton?  the accident occurred at around 7.30pm and we got back to my aunt's house at 12.30am.  oh how lovely waiting in hospitals can be.  we tossed everton in his bed and it was lights out everton.  thanks be to drugs for knocking him out.  i felt so bad for brett though, he was back at home in tooele and couldn't be there to give everton additional loves.
the sorority girl.

we're home now and everton doesn't know what hit him, well at least, what he fell into.
you be careful piste han!
did you know that when i was younger i slipped and ran into the corner of the wall busting my right eyebrow as well.  everton's such a copycat.

the muddy grandpa

my daddy is my superhero.
awhile ago his health wasn't exactly where it should be.
maybe it was the heaping bowls of vanilla ice cream doused in chocolate syrup every night huh daddy??
and his doc had told him that he better get into shape or his health could take a turn for the worse.
and that's exactly what he did, he started eating healthier and working out a lot more.
i would be chatting with my parents via phone or skype around 10pm our time, midnight their time, and daddy's like, whoops gotta go to the gym, ttyl alyssa.
and then he tells the family that he's training for tough mudder!
and we were all like, WHATTTTT.  daddy you're gonna die!!
and then what happened?  he ROCKED it.
he went to the mid-atlantic event in MD (which we were not able to go to watch him) and he said it was so freakin fun and that he'd do it many more times.
pics courtesy of mah mom.
my parents are seriously so freaking cute.
there were 20 obstacles and one of them was going through dangling electrical wires, yeah ok.
and my mom said she's never heard so many curse words in her life as she watched everyone going through those wires.
and my mom had a blast watching all kinds of people, like this dude with a blow up doll attached to him.
and what's up??  the avengers assembled.  seriously so cool.
my dad's team that mostly consisted of cops.
he became a part of this team through a church buddy, who is a cop as well.
my dad said that everyone waited for each other to finish an obstacle and supported each other the entire time.  i thought that that was just so cool.  my dad also wears hearing aids, which he could not wear throughout the event and couldn't hear anything at all, except for the electrical cords shocking him.  but yet the team was understanding and was able to communicate what they needed to with him.
you go glen coco!
i'm SO proud of my daddy and am still in awe of the fact that he accomplished such an event.  he is already planning on doing 2 events next year, 1 out east and 1 out here in utah.
he has inspired everyone in the family to start getting fit and healthy.
and today brett, everton, and i ventured off to work out.  but things didn't work out for today so we came home and i finished off a carton of my fav chocolate ice cream.  maybe tomorrow i'll work on my fitness.
but for real, my dad is so hardcore.
this 52 year old gramps is still a kickin.

FIRST WORD

my kid just said his first word.
i've been trying not to get discouraged that he wasn't talking for awhile, knowing that when he hits 2 or 3 years old then i'll start worrying.  but i am dying to hear him say, "mama" or "dada."  and then this late afternoon erin and i were singing a nursery song to him and he picked up on a word.
watch the vid to hear the word!

that's right, his first word is ASHES.  from the song that is supposedly based on the black plague.  i started crying of course, it was so cute hearing an actual word coming out of him and not car noises.  but for real everton?  ashes??  whatever it takes to get you to start talkin...

sports illiterate

growing up i was blessed with a daddy who wasn't too into sports.  and i decided i would marry a guy who didn't care about sports either.  false.  i married someone quite opposite, someone who is obsessed with the texas rangers in baseball and the dallas mavericks in basketball.  but i still love him to death.
i am what i consider to be sports illiterate.  i'm sure brett has explained to me numerous times exactly what that one guy is doing with the ball and where he's taking/throwing it.  and when i was in marching band i just sat on the bench while my fellow band mates were screaming their heads off during the football game.  it's not like our team was good anyways.  i have never had team spirit.
MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT OF MY LIFE-
in my sophomore year of high school, we were playing some game in gym class that involves a ball and a bat and i was going to run for a girl up to bat who had a bum leg.  she hit the ball and i started to run...towards 3rd base.  i heard someone yell, "what are you doing?!?"  i stopped, became horrified at what i had done, then ran into the weight room and cried and cried.  SOOO embarrassing.  i did have some friends who ran in and comforted me, which i was super grateful for.   but for real, i felt so stupid.
fast forward to today, our stake had a little softball game going on for the adults and i actually wanted to check it out.  my friend tatiana convinced me to go and it was so fun!  and it was even more fun not having a bunch of judgmental high school kids watching your every move.  it's not like i played like an all star but it felt good being active and having brett and erin there made it even less embarrassing.

and erin and i came away from the game with millions of mosquito bites.  yay!
this is my sexy leg.  the bites look like they're from that movie, the mummy, where those scarabs burrow into your skin.  hot.  i get eaten alive by mosquitoes when i step outside.  but what can i say?  they only like me for mah body.

back to sports, i do hope to become a hot baseball/football/soccer mom.  thinking about everton in a little uniform makes me want to die.

a new addition to the family

my sweet baby sister, erin, just moved from west virginia to utah!
which is something i never thought would happen in my life.
but erin was felt that a change might be in order, and a dramatic change at that.
going from wvu to hopefully ldsbc.
she'll be staying with us till she can get settled in slc.
i've been loving having her here.
when my sisters and i were younger it was her and kyla that were buds and pretty sure all i did with erin was punch her in the boobs.  so i'm very excited to hang out with her more instead of abusing her...

and let's be honest, i'm also REALLY excited about having a built in babysitter.  except she just refuses to change poopy diapers, we'll be working on that.

4 year

holy smokes!  it's our 4 year anniversary!!

the number 4 is such a small number but when you REALLY think about it, 4 years sounds like a LONG time already.  i'm still super duper in love with my husband.  we're still learning things about each other and still trying to understand one another at times.  he's been the best teammate i have in the adventures of parenting.  he's my sweetheart whom i cherish and love soooooo soooo freakin much.

so to celebrate our 4th year of marriage this day, brett went to work and i took everton to get his immunizations shot.  yay for everton!  then i plucked up some courage and drove ALL the way to salt lake city!  it takes about 40ish mins and i find that driving on the freeway is really intimidating.  but i REALLY wanted to go on a date with my husband and that meant braving the slc traffic.  AND I DID IT.  my palms did start to sweat as i drove on the freeway but i did it.  i'm a wiener i know. i thankfully made it to brett's office, we left everton with one of brett's coworkers, and embarked on our anniversary outing.  we went to chili's for dinner to be cheap then the cheesecake factory for dessert to splurge.
WORTH IT.
brett got that oreo filled cheesecake

and i got the ultimate red velvet cheesecake.

and our anniversary celebration isn't over yet.  we FINALLY get to see the dark knight rises this sat and we're gonna try to get massages next weekend.  HOPEFULLY.

i'm still in love with my man, still bloated from all that cheesecake, and still crazy about everton.
life is AWESOME.
happy anniversary to my sweetheart.
thanks for the great date!

a teeny update

it's been a little while since my last post.
we've had a few things going on here and there but nothing of monumental proportions.
well there was everton's 15 month appt where we found out that he now weighs 23lbs (90th percentile!) and is 31in long.  so that's good news to us that he's healthy and is continuing growing.  and that other time when i rummaged through a bag of random stuff that my mom had given to me back in april and found $60 from some 16th birthday cards and graduating from high school cards.  so that was pretty awesome.
other than that, it's just been me and ol' everton while daddy's at work.
we've been busy watching micky mouse clubhouse, staying in our pjs, feeding our faces, reading the same winnie the pooh book that everton insists on over and over, and taking naps.  it's the repetitive life of this stay at home mom but i freakin love it.

everton is growing right before our eyes.  and i'm so grateful i can stay home to see it.  besides brett, everton is my other bestie.  he's too smart for his own good, he can climb the couches and open the cabinets (we baby proofed the chemical cabinets.)  he's still not talking but he gives sloppy kisses, gives excellent high fives, folds his arms to pray, and we just recently taught him how to fist bump, yeah we're teaching him the important things in life.

i lub him, he's too awesome.

"He was so deadly, in fact, that his enemies would go blind from over-exposure to pure awesomeness!"
name that movie.
